About The Event
Here’s a blues double bill that is almost too hot to handle.
The exceptionally gifted vocalist Miss Emily is currently on fire after winning three Maple Blues Awards in 2020 and getting a Juno nomination in 2022 for Blues Album of the Year for her incendiary Live at the Isabel. It’s the payoff after nearly two decades of refining her skills as she slogged through the bars and nightclubs of Southern Ontario. Described by one critic as sounding like a cross between Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin, the Kingston-based Miss Emily is both a remarkably skilled and versatile vocalist and a powerful stage presence whose performances are an intoxicating blend of soul, jazz, gospel, and blues. According to The Tragically Hip’s Rob Baker, she has “an angelic voice with just a hint of sultry devilishness . . . this gal is a rocket ready to take off!”
And when Miss Emily does achieve lift-off in Golden, she’ll be doing it with the equally dynamic Jenie Thai, a thrilling singer-pianist with a three-octave range who revels in old-school soul and blues-drenched barrelhouse boogie-woogie. With her fiery charisma she was the obvious choice as the opening act for Downchild Blues Band on their recent 50th anniversary tour; she’s also a coast-to-coast festival favourite and has several fine CDs to her credit. Notes Johnny Max, radio host of Sunday Morning Soul, “Jenie Thai is one of the most inspirational roots piano players I have seen in a long, long time. She brings both a blues and boogie woogie sensibility to her music and then infuses it with her young exuberant songwriting.”
Jenie played with her band at Summer Kicks in 2022 and this will be Miss Emily’s first visit to Golden. Two headliners in one night – don’t miss this one!
