About The Event

Nestled between the Rocky and Purcell Mountain ranges, sharing the valley with the Columbia River wetlands, and neighbouring the UNESCO World Heritage Site designated Canadian National Parks, the artists of the Golden Visual Arts Society are never at a loss for inspiration.

Following their 2022 exhibition “Our Town”, the Society is again highlighting this area of natural beauty that they call home, by presenting the exhibition “Our Mountains”.

“Our Mountains” is and exhibition of the collected artworks of eighteen members of the Golden Visual Arts Society. The artworks represent the members’ unique styles, techniques and media as they bring their individua inspirations together to showcase “Our Mountains”.

About the Golden Visual Arts Society

The Golden Community Visual Arts, also known as the Golden Art Guild has a rich history based on volunteerism. In 2014, several dedicated volunteers
organized the meeting of the Golden Art Guild every Monday at the Golden Senior’s Centre. In 2020, the ‘Guild’ incorporated as the Golden Community Visual Arts Society. Since our first Monday session in 2014, we have garnered funds for a developing a ‘strategic priorities’ report, and a feasibility report for an arts and cultural centre. We have provided free workshops for local artists, promoted these artists through our annual ‘Anonymously Yours’ fund raiser and AGOG art shows and participated in CBT’s Art Walk.

Through grants, memberships, fund raising and the Seniors Centre’s support we have been able to bring affordable high-quality workshops to Golden. Professional art instructors we have championed include Randy Hayashi, David Langevin, Doug Swinton, Victoria Page, Natasha Smith, Deb Thompson, Susan Woolgar, to name a few. Besides creating art, our group’s ultimate goal is to have a permanent centre where we can store our equipment, hold workshops, create art and expand our art horizons.

The 2019 Feasibility Study for an Arts and Cultural Centre with a focus on Visual Arts “found, without question, that there is a strong desire for a physical center for visual artists in Golden.” We believe that after the Golden Visual Arts success of the last five years that this is even more true today. If you or someone you know is interested in championing a “Golden Visual Arts Centre” please contact either Denise English or Krys Sikora at gcvasociety@gmail.com.
