Delreé Dumont, known as Wâpiski Kihéw Esquao (White Eagle Woman), is a renowned pointillism artist from Onion Lake Cree Nation. Her intricate works depict wildlife and Western Canadian landscapes, celebrating and preserving Indigenous culture. This exhibition speaks to the deep wounds left by colonial deception – promises broken, cultures suppressed, children stolen. What was stolen was more than land, language and tradition, it was generations of connection, belonging and identity.

About The Event

As a Plains Cree Artist, my work is rooted in the stories of survival, truth and resilience that live within my people. This exhibition speaks to the deep wounds left by colonial deception – promises broken, cultures suppressed, children stolen. What was stolen was more than land, language and tradition, it was generations of connection, belonging and identity.

Yet what remains is powerful. Our songs, our stories, our kinship, and our ability to endure are carried forward through blood memory, ceremony and art. My paintings are not only an act of remembrance and truth, but also a refusal to let these truths be silenced.

Each dot, each colour, each image was personally painful for me, to reclaim our voice and honouring those who could not speak their truths.

This body of work challenges viewers to confront the weight of what was taken while recognizing the strength of what remains. It is a call to witness, to feel, and to move beyond silence – toward truth, reconciliation and healing.
