Mimi O’Bonsawin is a contemporary roots singer-songwriter born in Northeastern Ontario and is French Canadian & W8banaki (Abénaki), a member of Odanak First-Nation. Through her rhythm and story-driven songs, Mimi’s music embraces the beauty of the Land. The ethereal quality of her music whisks you away with uplifting melodies and introspective lyrics that weave pop sensibilities with acoustic instruments. The layers of percussion and surprising harmonies make you feel the music rather than just hear it.

About The Event
As an Artist & Gardener, Mimi Says “Making music and growing food are very much the same. They both start with a seed, and with proper care, can grow into a beautiful garden that we all can share. I put intention and love into every seed and every note,”
Fresh off a tour in Australia which included Woodford Folk Festival & Cygnet Folk Festival, Mimi is in the studio working on the next album and is set to tour across Canada again this summer. She performs as a duo with her husband Ryan Schurman on drums & percussion making it an intimate yet uplifting experience for the audience. They invite you into their universe while providing a full band sound that provokes dancing, singing and over all joy.
Willow, released March 2023, is a collection of 14 songs. For many years, Mimi struggled to find her ‘sound’ but honed it while recording this album in the comfort of their Log Home Studio. “This album sounds like the music I have always heard in my heart.” Mimi adds; “It is honest, it is real and it is full of life. I feel like all of my previous albums have led me to where I am now, learning and growing at every chapter. I have never felt more alive.”
2024 Offered some incredible opportunities to Mimi and her band, as they toured festivals & Performing Arts Centers across Canada. She opened for Juno award winning artists Aysanabee, The Good Lovelies, The East Pointers & DJ Shub, as well as Beverly Glenn-Copeland at the Rialto Theatre, Montreal. To Wrap up what has been Mimi’s busiest year yet, Mimi performed at Woodford Folk Festival on her first Australian Tour. A truly grounded songwriter, sowing seeds with songs, as she becomes an International Touring Artist.
