Christine Tassan et Les Imposteures

“Masterful Gypsy Jazz with a hearty helping of spirit, humour and camaraderie.”

7:30 Friday, Nov. 6
Golden Civic Centre

Even though all-female quartets are a bit of a rarity in the manly world of gypsy jazz, Quebec’s Christine Tassan et Les Imposteures have more than enough fire, creativity, and technical ability to play with the best in this demanding genre. Founded a dozen years ago, Les Imposteures are primarily influenced by the spirit of Django Reinhardt but have seamlessly incorporated influences ranging from Cuban jazz to Québécois folk music into their dynamic and intoxicating repertoire.

Gorgeous singers, impeccable instrumentalists, and inspired entertainers!

With three CDs out, and a touring schedule that includes such prestigious venues as the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the quartet has achieved international renown. Notably, they were the first-ever Québécois band – female or otherwise! – to perform at the Django Reinhardt Festival of Samois-sur-Seine in France, one of the signature gypsy-jazz events in the world. Whether performing a Reinhardt standard like Minor Swing or one of their own tuneful originals, they honour tradition while being musically innovative. Gorgeous singers, impeccable instrumentalists, and inspired entertainers, these “Imposteures” are very much the real deal!
