KHC is proud to welcome back jazz piano superstar Michael Kaeshammer and his trio to our restored Civic Centre. While still a teenager in the 1990s, Kaeshammer became an overnight sensation as the “boogie-woogie wunderkind.” Over the years he has added the titles of singer and songwriter to his job description, maturing into a charming and charismatic performer who is looking more and more like his generation’s Harry Connick Jr. As he has increasingly strayed from the piano tradition of legends such as Meade Lux Lewis and Pete Johnson, the versatile Kaeshammer has become more interesting and more entertaining. For over a decade he’s been seamlessly absorbing romantic ballads, New Orleans funk, modern jazz, and a hint of pop panache into his bedrock piano sound.

Shifting between his current repertoire and reinventions of his earlier hits, Kaeshammer offers an evening of piano pyrotechnics and virtuoso music making that will leave you floored. As the producer of CBC’s Fresh Air show whimsically declared: “There’s only one problem with Michael Kaeshammer . . . he’s too darned talented!”
