Michael Kaeshammer

Kaeshammer delivers an intoxicating blend of modern jazz, contemporary pop, and New Orleans funk.

7:30pm Thurs Oct 3
Golden Civic Centre

The music world is often unkind to child prodigies after they grow up, but piano master Michael Kaeshammer continues to be blessed with a remarkable career. While still a teenager in the 1990s he became an overnight sensation as the “boogie-woogie wunderkind.” But over the years Kaeshammer has added the titles of singer and songwriter to his job description, maturing into an electrifyingly charismatic performer who could now teach Harry Connick, Jr. a thing or three.

Although never abandoning the piano tradition of legends such as Meade Lux Lewis and Pete Johnson, the versatile and joyously in-the-moment Kaeshammer has become more and more compelling as he has incorporated elements of modern jazz, contemporary pop, and New Orleans funk into his repertoire.

From his dazzling keyboard prowess to that handsome voice and onstage charm, Kaeshammer consistently delivers more than the audience expects, and his fistfuls of laudatory press clippings are testimony to the depth of his skills. He has released a dozen CDs – earning seven Juno nominations in the process – and is a formidably virtuosic performer who always gets a standing ovation.

He is touring with an all-star quartet and featuring material from his latest CD, the widely acclaimed Something New. Rated a career milestone by many critics, New sees him returning to New Orleans for a really deep dive into the rich musical history and seductive grooves of the Crescent City.

After a lifetime immersed in blues, boogie, and jazz, Kaeshammer was inspired to come up with some of his most delightful and powerful original songs ever. When this man performs, people go crazy! We saw that in spades when Michael performed at the Civic Centre back in 2016 … arguably the most musically entertaining and exciting concert performed in our Live Kicks series – ever.
