Celebrated for their “artistry, poetry, and impeccable technique” by La Scena Musicale, Duo Concertante is unquestionably Canada’s premiere violin and piano ensemble.

In musical terms their name denotes two solo parts and implies equality and balance, qualities that have been clearly evident ever since violinist Nancy Dahn and pianist Timothy Steeves made their dramatic entrance on this country’s classical music scene 20 years ago. They have recorded nine acclaimed CDs, including Beethoven’s Complete Sonatas for Violin and Piano, and J.S. Bach’s Sonatas for Violin and Keyboard, which earned raves from the international press.

These two gifted artists also share a passion for new music, having commissioned a total of 25 new works for violin and piano by leading Canadian composers such as Denis Gougeon and Jean Lesage. (Their just-released CD, Incarnation, is their third all-Canadian recording.)

Celebrated for the brilliance of their deeply informed performances, it’s no surprise that this in-demand Duo have a frantic touring schedule stretching from London’s Wigmore Hall to the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. And when not on the road these energetic and inspired teachers enjoy sharing their knowledge and love of music with young musicians, most notably via their annual Tuckamore Chamber Music Festival.

It’s been said that chamber music is the purest distillation of classical composition – thoughtful and intuitive musical interplay that can reach rare heights of eloquence, grace, and fire. Expect all that and more when Duo Concertante are on stage and breathing new life into the masterworks of Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart.
