Born and raised in New York City but of Cameroonian descent, Cécile Doo-Kingué is one of the most exciting and authoritative roots-and-blues musicians on the circuit today.

Aside from her commanding stage presence, this fleet-fingered guitar virtuoso and gifted singer-songwriter has forged a uniquely satisfying blend of blues, Afro-roots, jazz, hip-hop, and soul that has thrilled audiences across North America and throughout Europe.

Currently based in Montreal, Doo-Kingué is as sophisticated and worldly as her adopted hometown of the last several years. She is an emerging global talent and in her travels she has performed with and/or opened for such diverse stars as the Blind Boys of Alabama, Canned Heat, James Blood Ulmer, Jim Byrnes, Angélique Kidjo, and Youssou N’Dour.

A multiple award-winner, Doo-Kingué sees writing songs as a form of emotional exorcism. “Through song, I find that I express my anger, my sorrow, and my concerns in a healthier way than if they just stay in my head,” says Doo-Kingué.

Her debut solo album came out in 2010 and she currently has five releases to her credit – the latest, Anybody Listening Part. 2: Dialogues, is a good place to start if you want to find out what this socially engaged artist is all about. Versatile, funky, provocative, outspoken, and deeply authentic, Doo-Kingué is an onstage powerhouse who celebrates life while reveling in the transformative potential of great music that gets your mind engaged and your feet moving.

Doo-Kingué has huge talent, a powerful voice, and, even more important, lots to say. Better come check her out!
