Dawna-Lea Ringer - Nature's Containers

In this exhibit, Dawna-Lea Ringer explores the historical and cultural use of natural material for making containers and baskets, while incorporating her unique style centered around celebrating the natural history of the Columbia Wetlands and adjacent mountains.

Dawna-Lea’s Artist Statement:
I have sought ways to express my creativity from an early age – it was just something I had to do. Moving to Golden in the 1980’s and finding a little piece of land overlooking the wetlands became the opportunity needed to focus my creative energies. The inspiration for my art, and often much of the media itself, are garnered from right around our home – where creative ideas abound. I intend to bring awareness to the mountains, the water and the wildlife that offer a never ending supply of such inspiration.

My art depicts the wonders of the natural world, using various media, depending on the project. This involves applying paint to watercolour paper, cement floors, house walls, fabrics, and all sorts of other natural material. I do commercial graphic designs that are one of a kind, using original artist materials that are then transferred to digital media for your final use.

I have done a number of commissioned art pieces, as well as original graphic designs for interpretive venues, and illustrations for children’s books (including my self-published “David Thompson Activity Book”). I am now pleased to offer a variety of prints, ranging from small sized reproductions, to larger sized open editions and limited editions.

Nature’s Containers is on display at AGOG through April 11, 2012
