AGM Concert presents THE NORTH

A very special concert offered FREE for our Members.

7pm Tues Nov 8 2017
Golden Civic Centre

This is pianist David Braid’s 3rd trip back to Golden and this time he’s bringing Canadian jazz great saxophonist Mike Murley (2nd from left), co-leader of their appropriately named jazz quartet The North.

This is a very, very special concert offered to our Members. Doors open at 6:30pm and our ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING starts at 7pm followed immediately by The North. This concert is FREE for MEMBERS to say a big thank you for your ongoing support. In exchange, we request the pleasure of your company for the 20 minute AGM at 7pm where we’ll show you a video report with lots of photos from last year’s events.

“The North” is a jazz quartet creating music combining the experiences of jazz musicians living in Canada and Scandinavia.  Multi-Juno Award winners David Braid and Mike Murley are long time musical collaborators as are Danish drummer Anders Mogensen (left) and Finnish bassist Johnny Åman (3rd from left).  All leaders in their own right, these musicians share common roots in the jazz tradition while reaching forward as improviser/composers to reflect their personal and cultural experiences.

Saxophonist Murley’s composition “The Split” conjures images of his native Nova Scotia through the lens of a Coltrane influence.  Braid’s “Lele’s Tune” is a wide ranging suite that showcases the compositional skills that have brought the pianist international acclaim as an artist who seamlessly combines classical and jazz music.  Mogensen and Åman are a formidable rhythm section who bring their vast experience and Scandinavian perspective to the group.

Tickets are FREE to Members and can be picked up at AGOG while they last.
