Michael Hepher Between the Blues Sept 22, 2017

AGOG is pleased to welcome Michael Hepher and his exhibit Between the Blues to the gallery this Friday evening Sept. 22. Michael’s print work under the auspices of Clawhammer Press has been selling in AGOG for more than a year and so we’re very pleased to have worked with him these past many months to present an exhibit of new paintings and prints inspired by his trips to our neck of the woods. Come meet and say Hi to Michael at the opening reception this Friday evening from 5pm to 7pm. All are very welcome.

Michael writes, “Many different kinds of people come to Golden and the surrounding valley for a myriad of different reasons–many of which are lifestyle pursuits–and all of them are sandwiched between the blue of the water and the blue of the sky. Being that there is no one thing that defines Golden, and no one kind of person that finds themselves drawn to this place, Between the Blues is an artists’ exploration of a number of different facets of life in the valley. Inspired by the wide, sweeping road that parallels the Columbia River, touched by settlers’ cottages, and most of all awed by the openness of the valley and all that happens between the blues.”

An artistic and musical polymath, Michael Hepher has built a multifaceted artistic career over 20 years. His work is an exploration of unique ways of seeing the world. From the beautiful to the banal, his paintings and prints lead him to seek that one angle that gives each moment its particular voice. Colourful, textural works emerge with the goal of anchoring the viewer in a moment and seeing what they haven’t seen before. Painting in oil on canvas and hand-carved wood or linoleum block prints, Hepher works with unique colour schemes and layers of texture to bring out the emotion of a landscape.

A professional artist in a variety of mediums, Michael has found his stride after founding Clawhammer Press, a historic printing studio, where he focused his work on painting and printmaking. His works can be found in homes and collections all over the world as well as from quality Western Canadian galleries.

Michael currently lives with his family in beautiful Fernie, BC.
