Ballet Kelowna’s David LeHay re-presents Bill Usher with BCTC’s Presenter of the Year Award in front of a sold out crowd at the Civic Centre.

The BC Touring Council Annual Awards were handed out at the recently completed Pacific Contact booking conference http://bctouring.org/pacific-contact and trade show on April 5th, 2014 in Burnaby, B.C. The BC Touring Council has been connecting performing arts presenters with touring artists for over 35 years.

At the Gala, KHC’s Bill Usher was given the Presenter of the Year award for 2014.

Presenter Of The Year: In this category presenters are to be currently presenting in British Columbia, attend Pacific Contact, demonstrate commitment to artistic and managerial excellence, demonstrate community involvement, demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism in presenting and contribute to the awareness and development of the arts.  The 2014 Presenter Of The Year was awarded to Bill Usher, Golden Arts Council/Kicking Horse Culture, Golden B.C.

In her introduction to the award presentation, Margot Gram, past president of BCTC and former manager of the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver, said,”Folk icon and social activist, Pete Seeger, gave Bill Usher a message in the ‘70s that is as relevant today and has shaped the course of Bill’s life, ‘You don’t find community, you make community’. Being a presenter is just one of many of Bill’s successful accomplishments.  Since he began as a volunteer and then Executive Director of Kicking Horse Culture/Golden District Arts Council in 2004, Bill has increased performing arts programming from an average of 6 to 24 performances per year with their LIVE Kicks Winter Season and SUMMER Kicks free outdoor series. His respect and commitment to the artists he works with is as strong as his belief in community.”

The Touring Artist/Company Of The Year is awarded to an artist or company who toured BC within the past year, demonstrates artistic excellence in their discipline and brings the highest degree of professionalism in touring. The 2014 Touring Company Of The Year was awarded to Fung Chiu Duo, Toronto.

In the category of Agent or Manager Of The Year the individual receiving this award should attend Pacific Contact and follow up with presenters afterwards, demonstrate professionalism and respect for artists and presenters and demonstrate ethical and best practices in business.
The 2014 Agent Of The Year was awarded to Danielle Lefebvre,
Agence d’artistes Danielle Lefebvre /Artist and Concert Agency
