Snow King’s MasqueParade Feb. 14 and Feb. 15, 2014

Our Snow King’s MasqueParade planning group of volunteers came together last week to start planning for the 8th annual February’s MasqueParade festival on the weekend of Feb. 14 and Feb. 15.

And this year’s theme  is “Fiesta del Corazón”. Loosely translated as “Party of the Heart” or “Party for the Heart” … or as some wag suggested “party-hearty”, our volunteer planning group thought “Fiesta del Corazón” would be a great festival theme for a Valentine’s Day weekend.

And to top that off, we can now confirm that the 7-piece fiesta band LOCARNO will be bringing their heat to Golden to play at the Masque Costume Ball at the Civic Centre on Valentine’s night. As usual, plans are under way for theme inspired food and drinks to make this a special “dress up” costume Ball. Stay tuned!

Then on Saturday evening, the MasqueParade pageant, parade and street fest comes to downtown Golden. As usual, we expect that a few hundred local Goldenites – of all ages – will create the Pageant festivities, and about 1,000 people will jam Spirit Square to welcome Snow King and Lady Spring back to the valley.

Special thanks to the MasqueParade volunteer planning group: Joyce deBoer, Barry Johnson, Jared Kotyk, John Denham, Lyane Gallagher, Bill Usher, Runa Bjarnason-Wilson, Chris Jinot, Mike Cantle, Russ Younger, Karen Archibald.

Check out this video of Locarno to get a flavour of what to expect come this February. Locarno is the Latin project of Juno award winning musician and Paperboys frontman, Tom Landa. The music, like him, is part Mexican but with strong doses of Cuban Son, Folk Music, Pop and Funk. “Locarno may be the name of a beach in Tom Landa’s hometown of Vancouver but the project rings with true Jarocho rhythms from Veracruz on the Mexican Gulf. Surrounded by the finest of BC’s Latin musicians, Locarno’s debut percolates with warmth and groove.” Cal Koat – Worldbeat Canada
