Last seen in these parts as a member of the seriously excellent all-star Jamboree cast at the re-opening of the Civic Centre in December 2011, singer-songwriter Russell deCarle will offer a more intimate style of music via his own Trio when he makes an overdue return to Golden this Fall.
Probably best known as the lead vocalist and bassist of iconic Canadian country-roots band Prairie Oyster, deCarle has latterly ventured out on his own and has two grand CDs and an international touring schedule to show for it.
The Trio – a.k.a. guitarist Steve Briggs and keyboard superstar Denis Keldie – are deeply skilled and intuitive players with great rapport and many decades of experience to inform their mix of slow-burning country, rollicking Tex-Mex, and dance-worthy western swing. And they always mix it up a bit by tossing in some vintage R&B and blues.
Whether covering classics by Hank Snow and Charlie Rich, reaching back into the archives for those Prairie Oyster hits that everyone remembers, or introducing his more recent tunes, deCarle puts on a show that manages to be both quietly electrifying and easy on the ears. A superb crooner with a handsomely lived-in voice, deCarle can also yodel with the best of them. When he and the boys take to the stage you’ll be blessed with an unforgettable evening of old-school country-flavoured music at its finest.
