ARTS, CULTURE AND HERITAGE GRANT APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE

CKCA and CBT announce 2012/13 programs

Columbia Basin – Artists in all disciplines—as well as arts, culture and heritage organizations—are invited to apply for funding through the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance (CKCA), which delivers the Arts, Culture and Heritage Program of Columbia Basin Trust (CBT).

For 2012/13, funding has increased by $55,000, to $706,000. This will help CKCA better meet demand in sought-after programs like minor capital for arts and heritage facilities, support for touring and major project funding.

“We’re very happy CBT has increased the funding made available to arts, heritage and culture through our programs,” said Jacquie Hamilton, CKCA Chair. “The works of these organizations and individuals touch upon the lives of people throughout the Basin, and CKCA appreciates the opportunity to provide support.”

Funding is available for:

individual and group projects;

minor capital projects;

touring;

arts and heritage mentoring/master classes;

organizational development;

major projects;

artists in education;

major exhibits;

major heritage capital projects; and

heritage projects.

“This is support for our neighbours, our museums, our local theatre troupes—for the many ways arts, culture and heritage weave through our lives,” said Gary Ockenden, CBT Director of Community Engagement. “We’re proud CBT can strengthen this sector in order to benefit the whole community.”

Find out more and get the application form by visiting www.basinculture.com, contacting your local community arts council or phoning CKCA at 250.505.5505 or 1.877.505.7355.

Applications must be received by March 9 or March 23, 2012, depending on the program.

CBT delivers economic, social and environmental benefits to the residents of the Columbia Basin. To learn more about CBT programs and initiatives, visit www.cbt.org or call 1.800.505.8998.

All the volunteers for Kicking Horse Culture and all the folks who have dedicated their time, energy and happiness these past few weeks would like to offer a great big Golden welcome to the 6th Annual Snow King’s MasqueParade. We thank you all for coming and celebrating with us this weekend.

TONIGHT! 7:30PM, FRIDAY, FEB. 17

There are still just a few tickets available for tonight’s MASQUE COSTUME BALL at the Golden Civic Centre. The Ball stars DELHI 2 DUBLIN and features all of you, dressed up in your masques and carnival costumes. D2D hits the stage at 8pm and we have some very special dance features before the show and at intermission PLUS lots of special prizes for costumes and dance ‘attitude’! Tickets at AGOG until 6pm or while they last.

SATURDAY NIGHT!

MasqueParade FIRE PAGEANT in SPIRIT SQUARE

Gather before 6:30pm. Pageant until 7:20-ish. After the Pageant, Snow King and Lady Spring will process across the covered bridge, east along the lantern-lit river path. Traffic will be stopped on Highway 95 because we’re all going to walk across the bridge together and parade down the middle of 9th Ave. for a street dance the likes you’ve never seen… more fire pageantry, some silly jesting, some juggling, lots and lots of special dancing appearances, some hot Snow King’s tea and the big, big Fireworks show. It should all end before 9pm.

(N.B. street barricades will go up on 9th Ave. N. at 6pm. Motorists are asked to not park in front of the Snow King’s Play House, The Whitetooth and the Rockwater between 6pm and 9pm.)

Attention ski bums, snow bums, skinny bums, and large bums; Iron Mountain Theatre (I.M.T.) is proud to present SKI BUM: The Musical.

SKI BUM is drawing HUGE crowds where ever it tours in BC. And why not! Last year in Revvie 100 enlightened snow bums showed up on the first night. 400 were in line the next night trying to get a seat in the hall. Don’t be a loser. Get your tickets NOW! At AGOG downtown.

We’ve added the Friday night show with an 8pm doors open to come in and get warm with drinks and munchies and DJ spinning. The Musical starts at 9pm. There’s an intermission and after the show we’ll keep the concession open until midnight with more tunes keeping the party going.

SKI BUM: The Musical is an all-original, character driven, seasonal inspired homage to the dirtbags, debutants, lurkers and posers constantly in search of bottomless pow. An all-original musical comedy that pokes fun of musical theatre while highlighting the trials and tribulations faced by a variety of mountain lovers. Mountain culture amplified by song, dance and story. The innuendo alone is enough to tickle even the most chafed of funny-bones.

Staring West Kootenay residents RJ Peters, Jane Gaudet, Mark Pollard and Nadine Tremblay. Written by Tyler Bradley and Mark Pollard. Directed by Shane Snow.

Our third FILM Kicks presents is up next Thursday at the Golden Cinema – and, it’s been getting rave reviews!

“The excruciating and the hilarious mingle nearly to perfection in this marvelously visualized and deeply felt British film…” – Kyle Smith, New York Post

Fifteen-year-old Oliver Tate has two big ambitions: to save his parents’ marriage via carefully plotted intervention and to lose his virginity before his next birthday. Worried that his mom is having an affair with New Age weirdo Graham, Oliver monitors his parents’ sex life by charting the dimmer switch in their bedroom. He also forges suggestive love letters from his mom to dad. Meanwhile, Oliver attempts to woo his classmate, Jordana, a self-professed pyromaniac who supervises his journal writing – especially the bits about her. When necessary, she orders him to cross things out. Based on Joe Dunthorne’s acclaimed novel, Submarine is a captivating coming-of-age story with an offbeat edge.

“A charming mix of of quirk and cool.” Vogue

“A film that feels both timeless and up-to-the-minute fresh.” Los Angeles Times

Kat Single-Dain brings her Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret to town on Saturday Jan. 21 to present the theatrical hit cabaret “Hard Times Hit Parade.”

“One thing’s for sure: it’s sexy. When the young marathoners launch into director Kat Single-Dain’s energetic, swing-inspired choreography, you can almost feel the sap starting to run in the trees.” The Georgia Straight

The Vancouver Sun wrote about the show last year: “Innovation is off the scale as we’re treated to big and brassy dance routines, small solos, comedy, magic, puppetry, newsreel-style video and, most magically, shadowplay revelations of inner character. A hell of a hoot.”

And here’s what the Vancouver Courier wrote: “Hard Times Hit Parade starts with a gangbuster of a choreographed number. The music revs up, fringe flies, little potty hats are clutched, pearl rope necklaces bounce and the joint really jumps. It’s terrific fun and would be even more so if you dolled up in some vintage threads, plunked a pokey little hat or a fedora on your head, put on your dancing shoes and joined in. Yowza, yowza!”

There’s close to a dozen in the cast as well as Vancouver band MARIA IN THE SHOWER performing live on stage – and on the dance floor!

Maria In The Shower

The Dusty Flowerpot cast will also add some local actors from our A-Muse Troupe as extras in the show. We’re so blessed that we’re able to stage this hit show in the newly restored Civic Centre. It’s definitely a hard to describe show but, just read the reviews, and get your tickets now. Remember the first 75 early-bird tickets are deeply discounted and are selling fast.

You will not be disappointed!

The Elder’s Tea went off without a hitch on Tuesday afternoon at the new “old” Golden Civic Centre. Over 100 “self-defined” Golden elders were served “tea” by volunteers including Mayor Christina Benty and Councillors Mike Pecora and Ron Oszust. many thanks to Mandy Cantle and her crew of volunteers for creating a warm and inviting feeling in the hall. Jane Fearing’s cakes, scones and cookies were a hit! Sue Gould was also on hand to play the Centre’s grand piano on stage for the first time.

Don’t forget the Open House this Saturday from 11am to 3pm where everyone of all ages can come tour the building and enjoy some music.

Plus, if you have young ones in your family, don’t forget the First Night Family New year’s Party hosted by A-Muse troupe this Saturday night. Doors open at 5:45pm with a countdown to “New Year’s” at 7pm. Then, as soon as everyone follows the A-Muse clowns out of the hall, there’ll be a grand show of FIREWORKS in Kumsheen Park?

A few tickets (available at AGOG) are still available for the Jamboree concert on Friday night and the New Year’s Dance on Saturday night. If there are any still left, last chance for Saturday night dance tickets is up to 6pm at AGOG.
