Kicking Horse Culture (KHC) is a dynamic, non-profit community arts council serving the mountain community of Golden, BC. We own and operate the Art Gallery of Golden & Studio Gift Shop (retail/consignment sales) as well as produce about four dozen cultural events per year. In addition, we manage the Golden Civic Centre on behalf of the Town of Golden. All of this program activity requires our staff to provide diligent administrative oversight and timely reporting to serve our customers, clients, and stakeholders.

KHC is looking to hire an experienced and well qualified person to provide full cycle bookkeeping services and efficient administration of our cultural programs and office operations. Reporting to the Executive & Artistic Director, this is a highly involved full time, usually Monday-Friday salaried position with duties split 50/50 between bookkeeping/ financial reporting and administration of operations and support to the delivery of our programs/events. Some evening and weekend work is needed to support the presentation of our shows; time is flexed. Pay is competitive and will be commensurate with experience and ability.

Financial duties include:

  • all day-to-day full cycle management of the Sage/Simply Accounting books, A/R, A/P, with hand-off of financial reports to the auditor at year end. The responsibilities also include:
    • maintaining the financial reporting systems and compiling and exporting financial data from Sage for reporting on actuals to budget for grant applications and our program departments and projects. Proficiency with Sage and capability working in Excel are both musts
    • cash management including banking
    • oversight of gallery point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory control

Administration duties include:

  • responsibility for facilitating the smooth operations of our office and the day-to-day application and tracking of our various systems that support and administrate the production of KHC’s cultural event programming and sales/exhibits in the AGOG. 
  • lead and support roles with other staff and volunteers administering/producing our programs and events
  • ensuring ongoing financial and administration controls are maintained and all required reporting is accurate and up to date
  • providing support to the E&AD in maintaining files and correspondence specific to the due diligence management of our financial, program, human resources, and policy governance reporting responsibilities

Our ideal candidate will be able to provide us with background information and references confirming that in their previous work and life experiences they have demonstrated:

  • skill, thoroughness, and pro-active diligence to effectively manage all book keeping and financial reporting processes
  • good judgment with the ability to proactively make timely/sound decisions and solve problems effectively
  • enthusiasm, along with excellent organizational, time management, and follow-up skills to achieve the projected results on time
  • an ease and ability utilizing computer software – Sage/Simply Accounting, Excel, Office
